EPISTAR LAB Has Achieved Efficacy Record of 200 lm/W for Red 2V LED Chips and

Hsinchu, Taiwan – October 18, 2011 – EPISTAR LAB announces its highest efficacy record for red high voltage & 2V LED chips.

Direct-Red platform based on high efficacy red LED chips is one of the high performance warm white solutions used in LED lighting applications. It provides LED luminaire with better efficiency, higher CRI and competitive lm/$.

EPISTAR continues to improve the performances of red LED chips for both high voltage (HV) and 2V chips for improving the performances and cost of warm white lighting as opposed to the products using the Phosphor Red technology. Recently, EPISTAR LAB has successfully achieved the efficacy of 200 lm/W for the 355um^2 red 2V chip at an operating current of 6 mAwith wavelength of 609nm (Wd). Under a typical driving current of 20mA, the luminous efficacy of 184 lm/W was achieved.

To reach such high efficacy, EPISTAR LAB has developed several technologies including the new transparent substrate transfer process, lower MQW light absorption, fine structure for increasing photon extraction efficiency and the improvement on the current spreading uniformity. These same technologies were also applied in the red HV chips. The record high 186 lm/W was achieved for high voltage chips at an operating current of 6 mA. An impressive 174lm/W at a typical driving current of 20mA was also reached. These high voltage chips have forward voltages of 18.5 volts. These high performance red HV chips are suitable for 2W~10W space-limited warm white LED luminaire applications such as GU10 and light bulbs.EPISTAR will continue developing more advanced technologies to enhance product performances and work closely with our customers to provide better LED lighting solutions to the market.
